In a major change of pace, Left4Dead and Evolve developer Turtle Rock Studios has announced that its next game is a turn-based VR RPG that is being made exclusively for Gear VR. It’s a curious move, but I must admit that the art is quite beautiful.
In The Well, players choose one of four classes, each of which has its own “spells and combat maneuvers”: Druid, Mage, Rogue, and Warrior. They then set out across “a variety of environments,” assembling a party from “a diverse array of companions,” leveling up, finding treasures, and taking down the “demonic forces threatening the realm.”
Turtle Rock Studios President and General Manager Steve Goldstein had the following to say about the announcement.
“The Well is not only our most ambitious VR title to date, it is our most unique. We’re excited to create a new, original fantasy world unlike anything we’ve seen before, and it’s specifically crafted for the Gear VR platform. It’s not just a fun game, it’s beautiful. Gear VR is a medium that allows us to push the creative envelope and bring to life games we never thought possible.”
Oculus VP of Content Jason Rubin also provided a statement.
“The Well is another unique title from one of the most creative studios around. Turtle Rock Studios is continuously pushing boundaries in VR, and this next experience is no different.”
The Well is set to launch on the Gear VR store on October 11th for $9.99. You can find more information on the official website.
