SplatNet for Splatoon 1 Shuts Down this September

Nintendo has announced via the original Splatoon’s tumblr page that SplatNet services for the WiiU original title will be closed down by September 30, 2017. It is important to note that online play for the original Splatoon will still be accessible, so the game is not dead just yet. Again, the game will still be playable, but statistics tracking etc provided by the SplatNet service will no longer be functioning after September wraps up.

I’d imagine this comes as a surprise to basically no one, as Nintendo is eager to drop support for their relatively lackluster WiiU platform so they can focus fully on supporting the Nintendo Switch, as evidenced by their other recent announcement that Miiverse will be kicking the bucket before the end of 2017.
