Worm Animation’s Beat The Game is something that I can honestly say that I’ve never seen before. It is a surreal point and click adventure game with a music-making mechanic that allows players to create their own soundtracks. As you play the game, exploring its beautifully-crafted world that is inspired by surrealists like Dali and Ernst, you will slowly unlock new samples, which you can then use in an in-game sequencer. According to the press release, the game’s “intuitive sequencer ensures every combination sounds good—it’s just a case of creating something that fits your mood.”
Worm Animation founder Cemre Ozkurt had the following to say about the announcement.
“Beat The Game is a love letter to my passions in life. Charming characters, sci-fi fantasy, European art and, of course, electronic music. We’ve put a huge amount of the work into giving the game a totally unique personality. And with the music making element, we can’t wait for players to flex their compositional muscles to create their own unique soundtracks.”
Beat The Game is scheduled to be released sometime this summer on PC, Mac, Linux, and Xbox One. You can get an early look at the game by watching the trailer embedded below.
